The Classroom Check-In

Put it on the board. Children choose their word, then you do the move together. Nothing is saved, and nothing leaves the room.

How does your body feel right now?

Tap a word each time someone chooses it. Or let children come up and tap their own.

Nothing is saved. Close the tab and it's gone.

Five minutes, three steps

No training and no login. If you can open a web page, you can run it.

  1. 1

    Put it on the board

Open this page on your whiteboard or screen and press Full screen.

  2. 2

    Everyone picks a word

Hands up for each word while you tap, or children come up and tap their own. "I'm not sure" is fine too.

  3. 3

    Do the move together

Little Bean shows the Copy Me move for the word most of the room chose. The whole class copies.

Good times to use it

  • Start of the day
  • After lunch
  • After PE or wet play
  • Before a test
  • Before home time
  • After a fire drill

The four words, for staff

Children say how their body feels, not what's wrong. Here's what each word can look like in class, and the move that goes with it.

Fast

You might see: up and down from the carpet, talking quickly, fiddling, hard to wait.

Slow push: press your hands together, push slowly while you count to five, let go and feel your hands buzz.

Heavy

You might see: slumped, slow to start, head on the table, "I can't".

Wake-up shake: shake one hand, then the other, shake both feet, stop and notice what woke up.

Tight

You might see: shoulders up, fists, a set jaw, very quiet or very cross.

Squeeze and drop: squeeze your shoulders up to your ears, hold for three, drop them with a big breath out.

Steady

You might see: ready to listen, joining in, able to wait a turn.

Notice it: feet on the floor, big breath out, "I'm still here".

Books for your setting

Picture books written to be read aloud, and activity books for small groups and one-to-one time.

For SENCos and school leads

  • The same four words in the books, the tool and at home, so children hear one language.
  • No accounts and no pupil data. There is nothing to sign, store or delete.
  • Short enough for a register, a carpet session or a quiet corner.
  • Short, simple sentences, with characters children already know from the stories.

Little Signals is not therapy and doesn't diagnose anything. If you're worried about a child, follow your school's usual routes.

Questions

Do children need an account?

No. Nobody signs up or logs in, children or staff.

Is anything saved or sent anywhere?

No. The counts live on the screen until you close the tab or press Start again. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent to us.

Will it work on our whiteboard?

Yes, on any up-to-date web browser. Use Full screen so the words are big enough to read from the back of the room.

What ages is it for?

It's made for ages 4 to 8. Older children often like it too, especially in small groups.

What if a child isn't sure?

That's fine. "I'm not sure" is always an answer. Try the Notice it move together, or come back to it later.

Can we buy books on invoice?

Email orders@theregulatedhumanco.co.uk with what you need and we'll talk you through the options.
